Our Serbian Christmas tree

Image hosted by Photobucket.comHere's a picture of our Serbian Christmas tree, made of oak leaves and straw, which we brought home from church last night.

It will probably be unfamiliar to most Serbs, as here it is high summer and so the oak leaves are all green, and I gather that in Serbia, as it is winter, all these Christmas trees are brown. I was quite surprised by that, as here were usually use evergreen trees as Christmas trees, usually pine or deodar. We also have evergreen oaks planted in some of the streets in our neighbourhood. Their leaves are a bit darker than the deciduous oaks, or at least darker on the front, and lighter on the back. But I don't think anyone uses them as Christmas trees.
